Congratulations to Julie Thomas, our SES Teacher of the Year!!
"After graduating from college, I reluctantly became a receptionist in a sheriff’s department. This experience exposed me to the tough side of the real world through the stories of the inmates. One inmate in particular helped me find my career in education. This 18 year old was convicted of capital murder. Poor role models in his family had led him to bad decisions. He was a victim of his environment. I realized that there were many children like him. I decided to become a positive influence in the lives of children. My role as a teacher has given me that opportunity.
Throughout my career, I have held many roles in education. Along with my work in classrooms, I have been able to be a part of various educational committees and teams that have strived to improve education for all of our youth. I take pride in the role I have had in assisting my students to overcome struggles, become active learners, and build their self-esteem."
