October 20, 2016 – The Georgia Department of Education announced today an online survey to get the public’s feedback on the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). In addition to the survey, eight feedback sessions are being held throughout the state to allow all citizens to give input on Georgia’s ESSA plan.

Every Student Succeeds Act allows states and local districts to develop plans addressing standards (what children are required to learn), testing, school and district accountability (including school ratings), and special help for struggling schools and students. There are still federal requirements by which states must abide. However, in many areas, ESSA hands decision-making authority to states and local districts.  ESSA Topics for Discussion:  Accountability, Assessment, Education of the Whole Child, Federal Programs, and Teacher & Leader Development.
